State tax I want find out why I owe State taxes alot

First, check your data entry for any typos.  Second, which state?   Some tax, for example, unemployment comp, but you may not have had state taxes withheld from that.

You probably didn't have enough state tax withheld from your paychecks.

Other reasons why you might owe the state:

  • Your income increased.
  • You lost a dependent.
  • You changed your filing status.

I recommend that you make a line by line comparison with last year's return to see what is different this year.
