Question

Submitted e-file but IRS doesn't begin accepting for another week. Is there a way to retract what was e-filed to correct something, since it hasn't been sent to IRS yet?

I submitted via e-file, but forgot a form I needed to include (there was no prompt for it because I was using the free option).

Per my status page: "The IRS will begin to accept tax returns on January 23, 2023. Until then, we will securely store your return and send it to them when they are ready to receive and process it. "

Since they haven't sent it to the IRS yet, is there a way to retract the form and correct it?

Once the tax return has been e-filed it cannot be retrieved or changed.  You will need to wait for the IRS to either Accept or Reject the tax return.

If the tax return is Rejected then you can make any changes needed and e-file the tax return again.

If the tax return is Accepted, then you will need to wait for the IRS to process the tax return and send the tax refund or if taxes were owed for the taxes to be paid.

Then you will have to amend the 2022 tax return that was filed to make the corrections.
