Hi,

I was in the US under a J1 student visa in 2014  and then from 2015-2018 as a J1- research scholar and have already filed taxes with TurboTax for the years 2015-2018. I want to amend my tax return but I don't know in which years I'm considered a non-resident alien. Also, can I use sprintax to amend those years?

Here is the amount of days that I spent in the US:

 2014 -J1Student- 102 days *not taxes filed

2015-J1Research Scholar- 165 days

2016-J1Research Scholar-347 days

2017-J1Research Scholar-350 days

2018-J1Research Scholar-65 days

From your information, you were a non-resident alien during tax years 2015 to 2018 as you have not been in the US for more than 5 years on a J1 visa.

You can only amend tax years 2017 and 2018. Earlier years can no longer be amended. If you use Sprintax to file your 2017 and 2018 tax returns, you can use Sprintax to amend.
