The feds accepted my return and provided a date for my refund. Then the status changed to ”still being processed“. It’s been “in process” since March. Why ?

I filed in March 2020. My return was accepted and I was given a date as to when to expect my refund. Then two week later the status changed to “in process”. This all started around the time the government shut stuff down due to covid. How do I get my refund ?

The date for your refund was an estimated date provided by TurboTax based on the assumption that most tax returns are processed within 21 days of receipt. With the current situation, that assumption no longer applies. The IRS is way behind in processing efled tax returns and have stopped processing mailed returns entirely.

The IRS does not provide a refund date until after they have accepted, processed and approved your tax return. Your return has not progressed beyond the processing stage. You can continue to track it using the IRS tracking web site: https://www.irs.gov/refunds

See this for how the process works: https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/tax-refund/wheres-my-tax-refund-the-irs-refund-timetable-explained/L9ZoW82cT
