Question

There's an error on my 2021 Fed. Taxes. I left out a long-term capital loss. I will file a 1040-X for '21, should I also file a 1040-X for '22&"23 since it carries over

The loss carries will carry-over to 2022 & 2023.

Yes you should amend them to get the right carryover to the next years.  You don’t have to file the amended returns if it doesn't change the out come.  Like if you already have the max 3,000 loss.

submit 1040-X and the correct Schedule D for those years. Don't attach 1040.

Note: : When you are not changing any dollar amounts on your 1040-X, you can leave all the lines 1-23 EMPTY.
