Turbo Tax did not ask me to enter my student loan interest paid in 2016. I already filed. Do I need to re-file?

I kept waiting for the questions to ask me to enter information from my student loan interest statements but it never did and let me file without it. Would my refund be bigger if I provided this information?

Yes, your refund would be larger if you claimed your student loan interest, unless you did not pay any tax.  You can file an amended return and claim your student loan interest.  You should wait till your return is accepted and your refund has been received before filing an amended return.

To enter the student loan interest you paid, while working in your return:

  • Click on "Search"
  • Type "Student Loan Interest" in the search window
  • On the page that says "Did you make any student loan payments in 2016?" Answer Yes
  • Enter your lender's name and the amount of interest you paid.
