TurboTax amended return transfers incorrect Line 7 from original return

I'm trying to amend my 2019 return that I e-filed with TurboTax Premier.

Before I change anything, the Federal Refund monitor already shows a positive value, not $0 as expected.

This is due to Line 7 (Credits) of Form 1040-X showing an incorrect original amount.

The original amount shown on Line 7 doesn't include the value from Line 6 of Schedule 3, coming from Form 8911.

The missing value is then shown as Net Change, even though I already received this credit when I filed my original return, and TurboTax incorrectly includes it in the value to refund in the amended return.

How can I fix this? Is it a TurboTax bug?

    Hi @Cass0317

Thanks for the links, but that was not my question.

In my case, when I start the amended return, the refund/owed amount doesn't reset to $0.

The original amount on line 7 should match my filed return but it doesn't. TurboTax then tries to claim the difference on the amended return.

I suspect this is due to TurboTax not taking Line 6 of Schedule 3, coming from Form 8911 into account when calculating the original amount.

@rxs When doing an amended return, the meter is reset to zero and may show odd numbers until all of your changes are entered. When you're finished with your changes, the refund meter shows any additional amount owed or refunded to you. This amount is in addition to your original payment or refund shown on your originally filed tax return.
