Unable to Transmit Return

I have a Windows 10 Pro computer (fully updated) and TurboTax Deluxe 2019. I have completed my taxes and TurboTax has verified the taxes as being completed. I am trying to transmit my returns. When I click on the "Transmit Returns Now" button, it states:

"There is an update available for your version of TurboTax. Before you can file electronically, you'll need to get this update. To do this, go to the Online menu and select Check for Updates." (This is repeated twice in the box.)

When I go to check for updates, the Updater responds "Your software is up to date."

I have saved the file and exited TurboTax and when I reopen the file, the same thing happens. I have rebooted the computer and tried. The same thing happens (did this twice). I shut down the computer, let it sit for a minute, re-started the computer, opened TurboTax and tried again, and the same thing happens.

What do I need to do to file my taxes electronically?

Thank you for your help.

I've had the same issues today as well.  I decided to just try to transmit my Federal returns, and that worked.  When I tried to file my NYS return, I received the same message about updates needed.  I was able to transmit my daughter's fed and state returns about 5 days ago.  Must be a glitch in the state update.

I am also not able to file my Wi state s-Corp return- same issue asking me to update TurboTax, but TurboTax is up to date. I was able to file federal return.

Has your Federal business return been accepted?  Since you already filed the Federal (by efile I assume), it will need to be accepted before efiling the state return by itself.

The following FAQ is from last Fall, but it hasn't been removed, so it's likely still in effect for 2020 product.

See if the FAQ about an update-efile loop is helpful..  It can occur in 2 situations--either when downloading/installing the state software initially, or at the end when efiling a state return and getting a prompt to update and being told "You're up to date."   The solution in that FAQ is a cleanup tool that removes your state program, prompts to update, then re-downloads the state program.

User "oli" reports that tool in the FAQ is still only for 2019 TurboTax.  So don't use it for 2020 TurboTax.  If you have a 2019 TurboTax program installed, it would probably remove the 2019 state program.   I've contacted TurboTax to ask them to update that FAQ and clarify info on the cleanup utility in regards to specific tax years.

That cleanup tool only cleans up 2019 tax installation.  I completely uninstalled by 2020 Turbo Tax Business and still have the same problem.  I have been on the phone with Turbo Tax support for the last 3 hours and they don't know how to resolve the issue.

What do you do if you have already paid and it still won't transmit?

You haven't yet described your issue.  "Wont transmit" is not enough info to go on.

Are you using Online TurboTax or the desktop version (CD/download)?

What and where is the roadblock?

Are you getting any error message?   If so, what?

Is there any message when you go through the Review tab?

With more info someone might be able to comment.

I am having the same problem with the 2020 return software, but I do not see how to file only the federal return not the state return.

Using TurboTax Deluxe it should give you the option to submit your Federal return once completed and error free. You should be able to submit state separately- that is what I did

May 11th, and this is STILL an issue. I attempted to file Federal ONLY (intend to mail my Minn), and received the error. Updates were applied when I first launched TT today, checking for updates says it is up to date, and applying the 189mb manual update (mentioned in this thread) has no effect either. Come on, TT, do better.

I just realized, this thread is from LAST YEAR. And this is STILL a problem? Come on, man. smh

I just spoke with the TTax support.  They did a software update today that is the cause of this issue.  They are aware of it and working on it.  If you call them at 1-800-624-9066, they will email you when it is fixed.

We need specific details to be able to assist you further.  What exactly is the program asking you to edit?  What screen are you in when you are completing this step?  What version of the program are you using - Online or Desktop?  Please respond back here in the thread for further assistance.

I had the same problem with my new MacBook Air. I updated to Sonoma which then required me to install a Turbo tax update.  That fixed the problem and transmission went thru.

    March 9, 2024

I completed my tax returns and hit "Transmit Return Now" and I was then informed 2023 returns were not being processed. I waited several hours and hit Transmit again and was told I had duplicate returns to be submitted. I was told to contact Turbo Tax.  Apparently, my returns have not yet been transmitted. How do I resolve this problem?
