Question

We just filed our taxes. When filing our state tax (MD) a PV 502D form was attached. We are receiving a refund. Can we ignore the Form PV (502D)?

We've used Turbotax the past 5 years and have never had this happen. We've never owed state taxes. It doesn't make sense to me to give the state money when we don't owe. Please help/advise.

How strange.  Is there a dollar figure printed on the payment voucher?

No matter, though.  If you're receiving a state income tax refund, you can disregard the Maryland payment voucher.

Seems like Maryland state has had lots of issues this year.

Hello - yes, a dollar amount was included. Over the course of the year it would be more than what we ever received back from the state of MD too, which is bazar to me.

"Seems like Maryland state has had lots of issues this year. " - Is this directed towards other tax discrepancies, anything I should know??

Okay, now I'm understanding what your payment voucher(s) were.  I thought your program printed out a voucher to be mailed with payment due for 2021.  But now I understand that your program printed out quarterly estimated tax vouchers for Maryland.

The TurboTax programs print out vouchers (both federal and state) for many users as a "suggestion".  The program tries to anticipate what you may owe quarterly and prints those vouchers.  Many users actually use them.  But many others are confused by the vouchers, as were you.  If you know you won't need to make estimated tax payments, you just ignore those vouchers.

As for Maryland issues this year:

At the beginning of the season, many users were unable to e-file due to a missing form, but a form that they didn't even need in their returns.  I learned that TurboTax was experiencing a delay in assimilating state forms, including Maryland forms.

Others now NEED this form, (Form 8582, I think, relating to Passive Loss Activity) and it's not even listed in the Maryland Forms Table.  Not at all.  Users have e-filed this forms in years past, so TurboTax is now investigating this issue.

Hope things go smoothly for you!
