You had better check your own records and know for certain how much of that 3rd stimulus you received --- and when you enter the amount for the recovery rebate credit---get it right.   Entering the wrong amount will delay your refund for months while the IRS cross checks it.

Did you each get a letter yet?.... They should have sent one for the taxpayer and one for the spouse with half of the advance on each letter. So if you're missing a letter simply enter the amount of the stimulus payment you got in the program and continue on your happy way.

@jaytrent1125  Did you already file?  Was it Accepted?  If it rejects you can fix it and resend it.  What did you put the wrong amount for?  The 3rd Stimulus Check?  If it was Accepted the IRS will probably fix it for you.

I have the same problem. My Letter 6475 states I received $1, 400, but I looked at the direct deposit from the IRS on my bank statement and it was $1,200.

@uniquetobeme There have been three stimulus payments. Make sure you are looking at the right one.  The first one was in 2020 and was for $1200 for adults and $500 for dependents up to age 16.  The second one--- paid in late 2020 or early 2021 was for $600 for adults and $600 for dependents up to age 16.   The THIRD one--paid in 2021 or available as a recovery rebate credit on a 2021 tax return----was $1400 for adults and $1400 for dependents they claimed.

Guys, so I need Letter 6475.. is it somewhere on TurboTax?

I'm filing jointly with my wife who just came to America last year. Now has her greencard and been working for 4 months.

We are filing jointly and I'm claiming her on my taxes as I'm her sponcer for her greencard so she will get her $1400 stimulus check...

Do I need to file out 2 letters 1 for her and 1 for me? If so I'm assuming I out the 1400 I received for me and 0 on hers? Can someone plz help me understand?

Correct ... when asked  in the interview ... you got 1400 and she got 0  in advance.

February 4, 2022

I guess we are using h&r block that's what my father's always used to do my taxes... It's says anyone who got the stimulus will get the Letter 6475.. since she didn't I can't fill one out for her ..

So I download the letter from IRS from me and I'm filing jointly and claiming her ... Is that all I need to do?

February 4, 2022

If you are filing married jointly, you will enter the amount that you both received into TurboTax as one number. If you are filing married filing separately, you will each enter your portion on your own return.

Critter-3 is correct above. You can take the amount from Letter 6475, from your IRS website account, or if your banking records show the exact amount you may just enter that number. The IRS knows what it sent to you.

I got 1400 she got nothing. Of ourse... So yes I'm filing jointly.. I'll enter 1400 for both of us total and it will automatically add the 1400 she is owed?

I made an monumental mistake on my 2022 taxes I filed the wrong 6475 information ..into the TurboTax system and filed electronically...I enter 7,000 into the  6475 box why because  I added  the 4200 we received early in 2021 with the 2800 stimulus,  ..days later I received the 6475 latera stating  2,100 on my wife's letter ...it shoulda only been 4,200 in that box instead of 7000  ,too late I filed electronically  help what's going to happen now ???

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it. It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner.

If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.” The changes will go nowhere.

Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return. If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.

If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund. THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and mail it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally. You will need to use a form called a 1040X. return.

Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself. Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed

@acha22 You are saying that the letter 6475 has more on it than you really received?   Are you sure?   Did you check your banking records to see what amount deposited sometime after March 2021 for the 3rd EIP payment?

I am curious to know what can be done. I filed head of house with 5 dependents i only received 3500.00 last year and the payout should have been 8400.00. I filed my taxes and reported they only paid me 3500.00 however my letter 6475 says 8400.00 witch is not the amount i received. I am devastated because now I'm literally putting my hope in the IRS to see the error and correct it with my return if not i guess I'm just completely out of the extra funds!

@acha22

Are you confusing the 6475 letter for the third stimulus payment (you + 5 dependents = 6 on the return times 1400 = 8400) which means you got all of the third stimulus you are entitled to in advance.   So did you not get that amount ... it went out starting in March thru the end of the year.

With  the 6419 letter which reports  the amount you got for the CTC advance ... they started going out monthly starting in July thru Dec  ... these are totally separate things and are entered in totally separate places in the TT program.

Me and my wife both got letters totaling 7,000 checked our bank statement and we only got 4,200 for EIP 3

February 23, 2022

You are probably mixing between letter 6475 Economic Impact Payment  (this letter helps EIP recipients determine if they're eligible to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax year returns) and letter 6419 which is the official documentation that has the details you need to report your advance Child Tax Credit (CTC) payments.

In TurboTax,The Recovery Rebate Credit will be found in the Federal Review section. You will enter the amount reported on letter 6475.

For the CTC payments, check the link How do I enter my advance Child Tax Credit payments in TurboTax?
