My return got rejected because my son claimed himself on his taxes before I did mine. Do I still file mine and then just submit for ammendment?

You can file your tax return without claiming your child and then amend both your and your child's returns to reflect that they should have been claimed and mail in the amendments.  That extra refund amount will take a while - potentially a long while - but it will show up eventually.
