What good is form 4684 if after filling it out there was no increase in my deductions?

Casualties and Thefts are not deductible on a federal tax return unless the Casualty or Theft occurred in a Federal Declared Disaster Area. 

However, some states have retained that deduction on the state tax return.  The information you entered will flow to your state tax return if your state is one that retained this deduction.
