What happens to my IRS payment if my e-file was rejected and I decide to file by mail?

I'm getting rejected because of a supposed incorrect AGI. However, I know it is correct. Instead of going through the hassle, I've decided to just file by mail.

Here's my question: I did provide my credit card payment in my initial e-file submittal. Will the payment be cancelled or will it go through the IRS since I'm changing to file by mail.

If you haven't mailed it yet you can try to efile it again.

Try entering 0 for the AGI. The IRS might have processed your return later so the AGI didn't get entered in time.  Especially if you mailed it.  That works for most people. See,

If you can’t get it to efile you will have to print and mail it.

Be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them.  You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places.  Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.

Were you taken to a third party website where you entered your payment?

I used the TurboTax option to pay with my credit card. I believe I was taken to a third party service. 'Problem is I didn't take a screenshot of the payment agreement page which probably spells out whether the payment will go to the IRS regardless. I go through the motions of resubmitting the returns but the page doesn't show up.

You will need to print your return plus ALL worksheets to see that page.   Here is how to print the worksheets.

     Go to Tax Home.

Select the year you have just filed.

    Click on Add another state.

You should see Print Center on the left navigation bar. You can now print all kinds of worksheets and forms.

Thanks! I might try re-filing with a 0 AGI. Actually, it was flagging my wife's AGI and not mine so maybe the IRS entered my AGI and not hers? BTW, We did file jointly last year.

Another question: If I re-file and it somehow gets rejected again, will I still have the same options (fix or mail in)?

It went through with "0" as our AGI!! Since I've been filing by mail until this year, I guess the IRS validation(?) database hasn't been updated. Thanks for suggesting that I try "fixing" our AGIs with $0 entries
