Your tax return is the form you sent to the government that shows your income and calculates your tax. The money the government sends back to you is your refund.

Under normal circumstances, when there is no pandemic, the IRS pays 9 out of 10 refunds within 21 days for e-filed tax returns. But because of the Covid-19 pandemic most IRS offices are closed and many IRS employees have been furloughed. Most of those who are still working are working from home. So things are going slower than normal. It's impossible to predict when you will get your refund.

The IRS is not processing tax returns that were filed by mail at all right now.
