TurboTax will not adjust your tax return for the $10,200 unemployment exemption. The IRS has said it will provide taxpayers with additional guidance on those provisions that could affect their 2020 tax return, including the retroactive provision that makes the first $10,200 of 2020 unemployment benefits nontaxable. Statements in the media have said the IRS is planning to automatically refund tax due to the first $10,200 of unemployment.

For those who received unemployment benefits last year and have already filed their 2020 tax return, the IRS emphasizes they should not file an amended return at this time, until the IRS issues additional guidance.

You can change or cancel an auto debit. If you’ve already filed your federal taxes with TurboTax, we're waiting for guidance from the IRS on how you can change your payment date.

The previous practice was to call the IRS e-file Payment Services at 1-888-353-4537 to inquire about or cancel your payment
