Where can I find a 20 character submission id for an accepted federal return?

I'm filing my state taxes using another program, and I have reached the following step:
Enter submission ID (20 characters) of your accepted federal return. If you don't know it, please contact the tax software company filed your federal tax return.
I have no idea what this is referring to.  Please advise.

You can only efile state from the same program you efiled federal.  So you probably have to print and mail state.  Why can't you use Turbo Tax for state?

If the software you are using for your state tax return is asking for the federal Submission ID, it will probably work. It's worth a try. If you filed your federal tax return with TurboTax you can call TurboTax support to get your Submission ID (SID). See the following link.

How do I contact TurboTax?

If they don't recognize the term Submission ID, tell them it's the "DCN / MeF Submission ID."
