Why am I getting a refund when I paid no quarterly and all my income was 1099?

It is possible to get a refund even though you didn't make quarterly payments and all of your income was 1099 if you are claiming a Refundable Credit such as the Earned Income Credit, Additional Child Tax Credit, or the American Opportunity Credit.

Did you have any withholding taken out of anything?  Better check your return real close and see why you don't still owe the self employment tax.  Did you apply a refund from last year to this year?  Maybe you are getting a Premium tax credit for health insurance?  Check if you have schedule 5.
