Question

Why did I not receive my full second stimulus check when my dependents and I qualify? How can I receive my full second stimulus check?

You might not meet all the requirements.  Eligibility for stimulus payments is determined by the IRS based on your adjusted Gross Income (AGI). Adjusted gross income (AGI) is your gross income like wages, salaries, or interest minus adjustments for eligible deductions like student loan interest or your IRA deduction. Your AGI can be found on line 8b of your 2019 Form 1040.

  • If your adjusted gross income (AGI) is below,
    * $75,000 for individuals
    * $112,500 for heads of household
    * $150,000 for married joined filers, you should receive $600 per individual plus $600 per qualifying child.
  • For filers with income above those amounts, the payment amount is reduced by $5 for each $100 above the $75,000/$112,500/$150,000 thresholds. This means:
    * An individual without children will not receive any payment if their AGI exceeds $87,000.
    * A couple without children will not receive any payment if their AGI exceeds $174,000.
    * A family of four will not receive any payment if their AGI exceeds $198,000.This means that if your AGI is over these amounts you will NOT receive the full amount of the stimulus payment.
  • Customers who received a partial stimulus payment (from the first or second round), but were eligible for more, can claim a partial credit via the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2020 income tax return.
