Why did I receive a tax refund check in the mail when I already paid in what I owe for taxes?

I filed my 2020 taxes in February and had to pay in $429. But, I just received a check in the mail from the US Treasury for $451.10 that says Tax Refund on it. Why?

if you reported unemployment compensation on your return your tax bill was higher than that it should have been due to the exclusion of up to $10,200 in UC comp from taxation. the IRS automatically corrected your return. there could be other reasons. you should get a letter of explanation in 2 to 3 weeks.
