Why do they deduct so much from state and federal is it because of the stimulus check

Your federal and state tax has nothing to do with the stimulus check.  The stimulus money is not taxable at all.  Whatever tax liability you are seeing is the result of the income  you received and all of the other variables like how much tax was withheld from your paychecks, your filing status, whether you have any dependents, what credits or deductions you qualify for, etc. etc.
