Question

Why is my bank DD information show up as XX in 2018 Form 1040 (filed) when i owed taxes?

My question is related to the stimulus payment. Why does the bank information show up as XX-XXXX in 2018 tax return 1040 (filed last year) . I owed taxes and I did not receive any refund for 2018.  I used my bank account number and routing number to pay for the taxes I owed. IRS did deduct the money from my bank account. But, the bank information is not added anywhere in my Form 1040. Should that be entered somewhere in 1040? As IRS has used my account number to deduct taxes, will they still have that information on file to Direct Deposit stimulus payment.  Any insights is appreciated. Thanks!

It shows XX's because that is only if you are receiving a refund.  The system that allows for Direct Debit by the IRS can not be used to make deposits.

    Hi Catina

I deeply appreciate your response. Based on your reply, does it mean IRS would not have my direct deposit information for stimulus payment? I would have to provide direct deposit information to IRS in the tool they are planning to roll out?

    Thank you!

Since you had to pay the federal tax owed on your 2019 tax return, the IRS will not have your direct deposit information (unless you received a 2018 federal tax refund by direct deposit)
