Why were our stimulus payments deducted from our refund?

When answering yes to the section wanting to know if we got our stimulus payments, the $3600 was deducted from our refund of $1311 giving a payment due of $2289. Why did this happen? Basically we gave our stimulus payment back!!

When you started entering your tax information, TurboTax assumed that you hadn't received any 1st or 2nd round stimulus payments yet, so they were added to your refund. When you entered the amount that you received, it removed that amount from your refund. So, your refund was overstated to begin with and was adjusted down when you indicated that you had received the stimulus payments that were included in it.
