Why would I get $1800 refund when I only had $600 withheld?

Did you request a Recovery Rebate Credit on line 30 of your 2020 Federal tax return when you filed?  This is the way that you request a stimulus payment that you did not receive earlier in the year. Check line 30 of your 2020 Federal tax return to see if this was requested.

 

The first stimulus payment for most was $1,200.  The second stimulus for most was $600.

 

Or did the IRS adjust you 2020 Federal tax return after you filed?  Did you receive a communication from the IRS?  Please clarify.
