I've filed paper returns for married joint since 2005.  Discovered this year when I tried to E-file that I had one digit wrong in my spouse's SSN the whole time.  IRS has processed the returns, including my spouse's W2s and 1099s, without any question.  I've corrected it for 2020, but now what?  Do I need to tell IRS?  If so, how?

You should amend all those returns filed using the incorrect ssn since 2005 correcting the ssn on the 1040X page 2.

There should not be any tax difference if the only thing is the SSN changing unless IRS shows additional tax information on the correct ssn of your spouse
