Question

1099-Misc

I have a 1099-Misc from an individual.  So it has their SSN not an EIN.  When I try to file the return Turbo Tax is requiring a EIN even though I entered the SSN.  This is supposed to be EIN or SSN.  Turbo Tax will not allow me to submit the return.

It can be either.   Make sure you selected the correct format, whether EIN or SSN.   Also, if there was no withholding in Box 4, do not enter zero, delete that field and leave it blank.   Otherwise only an EIN will work.

I had the correct format on the SSN, but I had entered zeros in box 4.  I removed them and it submitted.

Thank you!!!!
