1099 NEC Mileage

I have a 1099-nec for some work I did for an organization, and I'm trying to figure out where to input mileage for when I drove my vehicle for this work. Do I enter in the 1099-nec information and also go through the business questions? I'm unsure because it is asking questions about the name of my business, but I do not have an official LLC or anything like that.

On a related note, I'm also wanting to deduct mileage when using my vehicle for a ride share service.

You can go to the Business section to start with by selecting Wages and Income>>Add More Income>>Show More next to Self-Employment>>Start next to Schedule C.

You will do this for both the organization you did work for and your ride share job.

As you walk through the steps, you will be asked to enter your general info.  Your name will be your business name so you do not need to enter anything there if you did not create a company for this organization. You do not have to have any official name.

After you complete that section and go to the income section, it will give you a screen to add all of your income from various sources including 1099-K, 1099-NEC and cash.  Here you will enter the 1099-NEC.  Continue through to expenses and click add vehicle expense or put a check mark in the box.

In the vehicle expense section you can add your mileage for the business use of the vehicle for the organization.

You will repeat the above steps for the ride share income and enter the mileage that you drove for ride share.

It is perfectly fine to claim mileage for the same vehicle for two different businesses. Just be sure you maintain records for your mileage for each business separate from the other.
