Are the miles driven to the farm deductible?

We live in town where I have a separate day job.    Then we also have a farm 30 miles away where we raise beef cows and I make a trip out there every day with a truck that is dedicated to the farm.    The farm office is in our home in town and that's also where we have freezers containing the beef that we then sell direct to consumers, but the rest of the farming is done out at the farm.    The question I have is are the miles driven from our home in town out to the farm deductible or is that considered commuting miles?

Yes, the miles driven from your home to the farm are deductible and considered "work miles" for the farm. In addition, miles that are from your day job to the farm/farm office are also deductible. You can choose between the standard mileage rate or the actual cost method where you keep track of what you paid for gas and maintenance. If using the standard mileage rate, you should document your miles that you drove for the farm using a log, spreadsheet, tracking app on your phone, or something similar.
