Question

Are they going to make it possible to efile an amended 1120S for 2024?

I am trying to efile my amended 1120S, which it says I should be able to do, but I cannot because it says that my return was already filed and accepted, which the original was but it is not differentiating between the amended which is renamed and has the amended box checked. it says you have no returns eligible for efiling, then it shows my original return below that was transmitted first. It is not recognizing these as 2 different turbotax files even though they are named differently.

I also cannot mail this in for 1 the irs requires them to be efiled and even ifI wanted to mail them in there is no page where you add the lines changes, the amounts and the reasons that is supposed to be sent in with the amended returns, there is no place to create on in the program.

I pray they can fix this issue because as of now I can't file nor even mail in the amended 1120S because I don't have all the forms to mail in since they are not being created in the program.

they are looking into this but until its fixed i can't move forward, it shows filed on my software, I guess their error and me having audit defense may save me from getting into trouble with the IRS

In general, e-filing for an amended S-Corp return is available after the original filing deadline of March 15. Even though your original return is shown to be accepted by the IRS, it's unlikely the return has been processed. Any amended information you send now would be ignored until the original return has been fully processed by the IRS.

TurboTax may be linking your two tax files because the EIN is the same on both.

so are you telling me that I can efile the amended through turbo tax after March 17 2025?  and if so then do I have to wait to file my personal taxes or file them with the original K1 and then have to amend them as well or file with my corrected K1 before i send in my amended 1120S ?

You really need to contact customer support for answers to all of your questions.

Very few people here have the Business program AND have attempted to e-file an original business return (1065 or 1120-S) and also an amended business return (after filing the original using the same account).

Sorry, but it just doesn't seem to work.

You won't be able to e-file an amended return with Turbotax Business.

You should, however, be able to print all of the forms necessary to mail the amended return. If you can't, call customer support.

then why does it say on the intuit web site that you can infact efile an amended 1120S and gives you instruction on the how to?  also you cannot mail in the printed because it lacks to provide or even ask for the information on which lines where changed and why for the amended parts, which is a big bug in the program because there should be a file created for the lines and amounts changed and why and there is NOT.  so even if you could actually efile turbo tax business doesn't even supply the XML form that needs to be included.

I don't believe people that are ansering this have no experience with it and are just giving what they think are correct answers because they are incorrect.  If you have to do this yourself, you would see that your answers are wrong.

maybe file your own business and try to do an amended just for a trial you will see the exact problems and what is not provided that needs to be and so on,

I think people should really educate themselves on a topic so they can provide correct information or not answer at all.

thanks

You can file an amended 1120-S if you did NOT file an original 1120-S with Turbotax Business.

I fully comprehend that it doesn't make sense to you, but that's how the program functions with respect to checking the EIN, e-mail address, registration, etc., against the original return and the amended return.

I have actually done test returns in past years and a test amended 1120-S that I e-filed did not get transmitted after I e-filed a test original 1120-S (similar results obtained with a test 1065).
