Business Deductions while Traveling

Hello,

What sort of business needs to be conducted for travel, in and out of state, to deduct expenses? I run a coaching/consulting business and often market myself and the services I offer, verbally in person, to potential clients while traveling with family.

Is this enough to deduct expenses? And if so what documentation do I need to prove the expenses are “ordinary” and “necessary” for my business?

Thanks, Mark

How is this business reported?  If schedule C separate out the individual travel expense from the business portion like your airfare (not family), food,  (Not family) etc.  Are you paid for these jobs? If so this goes in the income on Schedule C.  As for proof, any contracts for speaking or appointments for consulting along with receipts for all expenses.
