Question

can't add business expenses on the Turbotax deluxe online - being prompted to upgrade to Premium

The Turbotax Deluxe CD I purchased would not work so in desperation, I downloaded Turbotax online.  I have been using Deluxe CD's for years and have been able to indicate expenses for the art fairs that we sell our hand fabricated jewelry at.  Things like booth fees, tools, supplies, materials, etc.  Did Deluxe change since last year so that those expenses cannot be deducted without upgrading to a more expensive program?  Is there a difference between the Deluxe online  and the CD that would explain this?  The program will accept the income from the art fairs but not the expenses.  I would appreciate it if someone could give me some guidance.

Thank you.

You should be able to report Business Income/Expenses in both TurboTax Deluxe for Windows and in any online version (except Free).

Type 'Schedule C' in the Search area, then click on  'Jump to schedule c' to get to this section.  At the Business Summary screen, EDIT your Business (or Add a Business).  After answering a few questions about your business, you can enter Business Income (1099-NEC, 1099-Misc, 1099-K, or cash/checks).  Continue to a screen for Business Expenses.

Or, in the Wages & Income section, scroll down to 'Business Items'.

Here's more info on How to Enter Business Expenses.
