Can’t e-file schedule C

I have the TurboTax Deluxe disc and I’m unable to e-file my return. I have a w-2 and business income and expenses. When I go to e-file it says that some forms can’t be efiled but it doesn’t tell me which forms.

I myself am OK to wait a little while, but I just can't image the multitude of repeat business they lost over this!

Even if it does take time to fix, they could have saved face and posted something about it on their page and/or to their email database. Then they should apologize, then offer a purchase discount for next year. If not, they won't have ANY customers left.

s.  Click Review to see if you are missing some forms needed in order to e-file.

Many federal and state forms are not yet available.  Check here for form availability. The dates are subject to change.

Tax form availability tool,

No hurry to e-file since the IRS will not begin to accept/reject 2023 e-files until January 29.   And….a state return cannot be accepted until after the IRS accepts your federal return.

Thank you for responding. I checked the review and it doesn’t show me which forms. When I deleted my schedule C information then I am able to e-file, but according to the tax availability tool Schedule C is available. I even tried to update the disc but it says it’s up to date.

Out of curiosity, why does it matter which form can't be filed?  One or more can't be filed yet, so you need to wait.

Because according to TurboTax the forms that I am using are available and ready to e-file.

I am having the same issue. You are the first person to post about it. So glad it's not just me. Still don't know when this will be resolved.

Thanks for posting

Thank you!! Now I know I’m not the only one as well. Hopefully it will get resolved soon for the both of us

You are not the only one. I am having problem with schedule C and when I delete the information on one of the lines it will file it. They must have a glitch in the system or have not issued the update.

January 22, 2024

I have been combing through the internet and the only thing I can find is that e-fiing for individual tax through intuit does not start until Jan. 29th. My only issue with this is that when I delete the Sch C file it looks as if it will let me e-file now which is confusing. I will post a screen shot (web link did not work) below to the page that seems to confirm the Jan.29th date.

@eddie epic

The screenshot you posted is for the PROFESSIONAL tax programs which have different dates then the TT program.

In TT click on the REVIEW tab to see what is holding you up and when it may be released.

Thanks for posting. I posted the screenshot just to show that e-file dates have changed according to the IRS regardless of the program you use. I use home&business but I think this is irrelevant as we have people here with various versions having the same issue. Hitting review does not expose any more clarity and just runs you back in a circle towards attempting to file. I have thoroughly checked and all my forms are ready for print and efile. This is likely an update issue through intuit.  I do appreciate you jumping in and trying to help. I hope I was clear and not to be argumentative.

Thank you Critter

Same for me cant file Schedule C, I have no issue filing the personal part, as soon i enter one single letter in the business part it wont let me file anymore only by paper. Turbotax Home & Business!

Hopefully this will be resolved asap!

Same issue here. I have efiled the same forms for 20 years on TT Deluxe on PC Now it says I can't efile because of forms. It doesn't say which forms

January 26, 2024

The reason you aren't able to efile the return with schedule C included is because of form 7206. Form 7206 isn't set to be available until 2/7/2024. Tax Forms Availability TurboTax

I have the same issue when attempting to efile with my Schedule C, I get an error I have to file by mail. If I delete the Schedule C it will allow me to efile. So I will wait until 2/7 or 2/8 and try again. Hope that helps!

That’s what I thought too. Form 7206 doesn’t apply to me because I have health insurance through my w2 job. I was able to delete that form and it still says I’m unable to e-file.

January 30, 2024

Same issue.  If you go to the "Forms" view you will find form 7206 is Marked "DO NOT FILE" at the top.  That also occurs on Form 8936.  I am checking all of the other forms for this stamp.

January 27, 2024

I am having the same issue.  Diesnt tell you which form either but have a schedule C.  Turbo yax removed schedule C from the deluxe version online but is still availabke on the desktop.  I am wondering if they are preventing us from efiling unless we upgrade

January 27, 2024

No they are not. It is available basic and deluxe. That s not the issue. They say they are working on a solution. This is second update since they were notified and nothing. It still does not work. I upgraded to deluxe it still does not allow me to file if I include schedule C.

All the answers here are all lies. I suggest everyone wait until tomorrow 1/29/2024. Earlier in the month I filed my taxes which included a portion of self employment. I checked today. My taxes have been accepted and that have been processed. So it is something they turned off after people started filing early. We just need to wait. That is the best answer I have right now. I have gotten earliest refund date 02/12/2024. Which is consistent with IRS saying they will hold tax refund that include earned income credit u til mid feb.

January 28, 2024

I have used TurboTax Home and Business for many years. Never had this issue. I don't believe is an IRS issue since the forms appear ready to file on the IRS side. I belief is a TurboTax issue filtering what can be process to avoid a clog in their capacity to hold returns before the 29th. If they can't describe what forms cannot be process that in itself is a generic hold not specific. Will see on tomorrow what happens?

January 28, 2024

I’m just stunned that no one from TurboTax is even trying any effort to fix this issue, yes let’s hope it will work tomorrow but this still won’t give us any guarantee it will work… we all pay money for the software and being pushed in the corner with no support is unacceptable..

January 28, 2024

I have scoured the web for WEEkS looking for others with the same issue.  I’ve called TurboTax 4 separate times to report the bug and I’ve never made it past the initial representative before being told “some forms are just not ready yet.”   I got as far as screensharing and showing the person what we are seeing and THEY reached out to tech support, but came back on the line with the same excuse as the other 3.. wait till the 29th.

Whats even more frustrating is that if you have a schedule c that is simple enough to do on the TurboTax online version, IT WILL ALLOW YOU TO E-file!!!!

And even MORE maddening… is that you can export/import that online version you CAN efile,  to. TurboTax Desktop… and it will stop you from the efile with the same reasons about a form… if it wasn’t that I had already spent money on desktop,  I should’ve just done online.   Seems like a scam to get some that are anxious to just file online and pay up another fee.

January 29, 2024

I am currently trying to e-file as today is when the IRS accepts returns but I cannot e-file either, it says some forms cannot be e-filed. Did anyone find any other information on this topic?

January 29, 2024

Thanks for posting. We are hoping they will supply an update soon to remedy this issue but I have been suggesting to people to also at least call support ad put in a complaint so that the issue is addressed more rapidly.
