I am the executor of a family member's estate who passed away in December 2022.   I applied for an EIN number in January to open an Estate Checking account and when I did selected "Calendar" as the reporting method.  I just realized that the form they gave me when the EIN was created says the 1041 is due by  April 2023 for the period of December date of death to December 31, 2022.  This person was retired and no income was received during this period.  Do I need to do anything,  or just file a 1041 for 2023 in 2024?

Since there was no income or gain to report for the 2022 tax year (calendar year for the estate), a return for that year is not required.
