If you use the internet 100% for business and want to expense the entire charge then it might make sense to set it up under your company ID. However,  more important than how the account is titled relates to how the internet is used and what percentage is for business

The main qualification to claim Internet service as a business expense deduction, the Internet service must be ordinary and necessary in the course of the business. Only the portion of business-related activities on the Internet are deductible.

Your computer, cell phone, Internet service, software and even some cool tech gadgetry are possible tax deductions if you must use them to run your business.

It's simple and necessary in today's environment.  The direction from the IRS is to determine the business percentage based on time used for business against total time of use for both personal and business.

A link is provided here to help with some other items that are easily convertible between business and personal use.

  • Mobile Phones, Internet and Other Easy Tax Deductions
  • Maintaining accurate records is very important to verify your decisions and proof should you need at any time.
  • Once you make your determinations you can enter the expenses in the business section of your return.
