Does the company need to state a taxable education assistance expense separate ( eg, put it under box 14 ( other) if the company includes it to an employee's wage?

    No. It's just extra income in box 1.

    The first $5250 of education assistance is usually tax free. There is no requirement that your employer put that information on your W-2; although some will make a notation in either box 12 or box 14.

    Anything over $5250 is taxable income and is included in your box 1 amount. There may or may not be a notation in box 12 or box 14 identifying that amount
