Fed 2019 TT step by step directs me to fed 2018 sch A, line 5, but sch A didn't exist in 2018 and I itemized my deductions?????????

If you itemized your deductions in 2018, you would have a Schedule A, Itemized Deductions Worksheet in your 2018 return.

Check Line 8 on your 2018 Form 1040 to be sure you claimed Itemized Deductions.

If you have TurboTax Desktop program for 2018, and your 2018 .tax file on your computer, you could open it to look for this worksheet in Forms mode.
