Fiscal Year E-filng

How do I enter FY dates on my tax return?  My e-filing gets rejected because the Premier and Home & Business 1040s have fixed calendar year dates.  When IRS receives them they get rejected because IRS recognizes me as a FY filer. Subsequently they want to me to file a hard copy which is burdensome at 100 pages.

    1040 instructions:

Fiscal year filers. If you are a fiscal year filer using a tax year other than January 1 through December 31, 2022, write “Tax Year” and the beginning and ending months of your fiscal year in the top margin of page 1 of Form 1040 or 1040-SR.

Agree on entry requirement but how do I manually make the entry?

If you are using a desktop (installed on a computer) version of TurboTax, you can use Forms Mode. Note that some entries may require overrides which voids the TurboTax Accuracy Guarantee (also obviates the ability to e-file, but you cannot e-file, anyway).

You still need to manually write the annotation, as directed by the IRS, since there is no way to do that in TurboTax.

TurboTax does not support fiscal year filing. There is no way to enter the start and end dates of your fiscal year. All the calculations are based on a calendar year.

If you file by mail, you do not mail all 100 or so pages of the PDF. You mail only Form 1040 and any forms that have an Attachment Sequence Number at the top right. Note that some forms, including Form 1040, are more than one page.

Thanks.  Want menu selections do I make to print just the IRS required 1040 filings?

You will opt to "File by mail" (under the File tab).

Out of curiosity, do you know why you set yourself up for fiscal year for your personal tax return?

Unless you specifically have a reason why you want a personal fiscal year, you MIGHT want to consider going to a tax professional to have them file the forms to adjust that to a calendar year.

As a side note, I suspect that your paper-copy is not 100 pages.  I suspect that is the version that includes a bunch of worksheets that are NOT filed with the IRS.  TurboTax should give you the option to only print the filing copy.

Also May I ask why you have Premier and Home & Business?  Are they for the same year?  You only need 1 Desktop program per year.  All the Desktop programs have the same forms. You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions.  The Desktop program can do unlimited returns.
