Question

How do I complete Schedule C if I took a year off driving for GrubHub and have no income or expenses for 2022?

I'm not sure how to complete my Schedule C for 2022 because I took a year off driving for GrubHub. The questions prompt as though I still drove but I didn't; however, I am driving again for 2023. I'm not sure how to show a year gap?

Hi Champ,

Thanks for the links. I'm still unsure what to do though because when I go to the Schedule C, it's asking mileage and expenses, etc. I put in "0" and it's showing a -$9 on the landing page but keeps stopping on the Final Review asking about mileage, QBI and if it's at risk.

I've tried putting in total miles driven for the year and "0" for business miles but this doesn't seem to appease the program. As I stated, I may be picking this line of work up again in 2023 (I'm not sure).

What's the best way to proceed?

Thanks!!

You can delete Schedule C from your return for 2022 because there was no income or expenses.

To delete a specific form in TurboTax Online you can follow these steps:

  1. Within your return, click on Tax Tools in the black menu on the left side of the screen.
  2. Click on Tools.
  3. Click on Delete a Form
  4. Scroll down to your form and click Delete.
  5. Under Federal in the black menu bar click Wages & Income to get back into your tax returns.
  6. Proceed entering/reviewing your return.

To do this in TurboTax Desktop you can follow these steps:

  1. Within your return, click on the Forms icon in the upper right of the screen to switch to Forms mode.
  2. Scroll down in the menu bar on the left and select your form.
  3. Click the Delete Form button at the bottom left of the preview screen.
  4. Confirm the deletion then click the Step-by-Step icon in the upper right of the screen.
  5. Proceed entering/reviewing your return.

If you do start driving for GrubHub in 2023, you can easily enter a new Schedule C.
