How do I enter Adjustments to Income on Schedule 1, Line 24z?

I see TT filled out the Schedule 1, Additional Income and Adjustments to Income, but it did not give me access to enter an amount for line 24z, "Other adjustments. List type and amount:"  As such, I will end up paying more than $400 additional Federal taxes that I do not need to pay.   I need access to Schedule 1, Line 24z to enter a dollar amount and type.

What is the nature of the adjustment that needs to be made?  Please clarify.

There is the ability to report a negative income entry with a customized description.  Follow these steps:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click Federal.
  • Down the left side of the screen, click Wages & Income.
  • Click Show more to the right of Less Common Income.
  • To the right of Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C, click the Start / Revisit button.
  • To the right of Other reportable income, click the Start / Revisit button.
  • At the screen Other Taxable Income, enter a description such as “Income reversed” and a negative amount.

The entry will be reported:

  • on line 8z of Schedule 1 of the Federal 1040 tax return, and
  • on line 8 of the Federal 1040 tax return.

Make sure that you keep records of all transactions. Later, you may need to explain to a tax authority your entry.
