You may remove your vehicle from the Vehicle Expenses section for the self-employed business where you included the vehicle in the past.

There are two ways to handle this. You can figure a taxable gain or loss on the vehicle, or you can delete it from your business expenses.

For either option:

  1. Search on "schedule c" and use the "jump to..." link to go to the start of the business section.
  2. Click Review beside your business. Follow the prompts until you reach the Expenses screen.
  3. Scroll down to Vehicle and click Edit.

Option #1: If you did not use the vehicle this year and plan not to use it again, you can tell TurboTax that you disposed of the vehicle, even if you just stopped using it.  You would then answer the prompt for sales price as being $0.  This is what TurboTax instructs you to do.

  1. On the Let's get some info about this vehicle screen, check the box I stopped using this vehicle in 2022 and enter the date.
  2. Continue with the onscreen interview until complete.
  3. This method reports a gain or loss on the vehicle disposition (even if you just stopped using it).

Option #2: You can delete the vehicle from the Vehicle Expenses section.

  1. From the Vehicle Summary page, click the trash icon and Done
  2. Continue to the end of the section.

Optional: If these two options do not entirely remove the vehicle from your return, you may try deleting the related form called "Car & Truck Wks."
