You can take steps to correct the information/W-2 form.  If the Kronos ransomware affected your employer records which led to an error in your W-2 form, you must get a corrected W-2 from your employer.

It is the responsibility of your employer to provide an accurate W-2 to each employee.  As a last resort, and only if you have exhausted all attempts to get the correction, you can use your paycheck stubs to create a substitute W-2, Form 4852. Your return must be filed by mail.

My employer is withholding my corrected W2 until my overpayment balance is paid in full and informed me that it will take 4+ weeks to receive my W2 after I've paid. I will most likely miss the filing extension deadline. Is this legal for them to do? This issue stems from the Kronos hack and apparently terrible record-keeping by the company I work for.
