Question

I am a 1099 employee and I do NOT own my own business. I worked for someone as a contractor. Why does Turbo Tax keep referring to me as the owner of "my business"?

You are not an employee, you are a self-employed contractor. Being an independent contractor is a business. You are in business for yourself. The person or company that uses you as a contractor is your client, not your employer. Your 1099-NEC income is business income.
