Hello, I am trying to determine if we need to file quarterly taxes. I am a w2 worker and my spouse is a 1099, along with some money that comes in via stocks and dividends. My spouse’s work/pay is not consistent throughout the year and neither is the money we receive via stocks and dividend. On average the taxes we owe at the end of the year on the 1099 pay and stocks is around $5000.

    Hello,

Based on the amount of your balance due you should be making estimated payments, but there are other factors involved.

Here is a good article on figuring your estimates and how and when to pay them.
