Question

I have a 1099-NEC form. It’s from working at a daycare and getting a retention bonus from the state. TurboTax keeps taking me to self employed business information

It’s nonemployee compensation. It’s not my business, it’s money I got from the state.

Since this is a sporadic activity and not a self -employment income , report it on line 8, “Other Income,” on Schedule 1 (1040).Follow the steps below to enter your 1099-NEC:

You can enter the 1099-NEC this way if it was not received for self-employment:

  1. Go to Wages & Income
  2. Go to Other Common Income
  3. Select Income from a 1099-NEC
  4. Enter the payer's information
  5. Enter the reason for this 1099-NEC
  6. Does one of these uncommon situations apply?
  7. Click This is not money earned as an employee or self-employed individual,
