I was newly licensed 7/08/2020.  I affiliated with a firm as a provisional broker on 7/22/2020.  I have a large number of expenses some of which I incurred prior to affiliating with the firm and some immediately after affiliating.  I consider all of these startup expenses but now I'm not sure.  I didn't actually earn any money until 10/11/2020.  So what would be considered the date my self employment business be considered started?  Would it be the day I affiliated with a firm?  Since I could not earn anything until I affiliated with a BIC since I was provisional?  TIA

Your business start date would simply be the date you were officially open for business and that would be the first date you would have accepted (or would have been willing and able to accept) customers or clients.
