Are you looking for their federal tax ID?

If yes, for Northern Trust, try these steps:

1. Go to https://www.northerntrust.com/about-us/investor-relations/financial-information/sec-regulatory-filings

2. Select 2018 Form 10-K

3. Look for their EIN on the first page, towards the right.

OMG! After hours trying to move forward, a tax specialist (not the first or more I contacted) told me how to bypass this. Type in northern trust manually rather than auto info input. At that point no more requests for numbers not on the 1098. Yeah!!!

Sometimes it is the questions you ask which get incorrect answers ... if you asked only how to get the EIN for the bank then that is the answer given. If you had asked how to enter the 1098 without importing or needing the EIN then the option to skip the import would have been mentioned. In the future ask more and broader questions.
