Question

I was doing a review of my 2022 tax return before I filed, and Turbo Tax told me I had to correct an item on Schedule A. How can I get into Schedule A to edit?

There is not a line 2b shown on Schedule A.  Could it be line 5b instead?  Either way, you cannot edit Schedule A directly.  Instead, you need to revisit the section of your return that populates the line item that needs to be changed.

If it is line 5b, that represents the state and local real estate taxes.  This amount is generally entered with your mortgage interest information if you own a home with a mortgage.  Or, if your home does not have a mortgage, the real estate tax amount is entered separately.

Use the steps below to revisit either the mortgage interest section or the real estate tax section.

For mortgage interest:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “mortgage interest” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to mortgage interest
  • Click on the blue “Jump to mortgage interest” link

For property tax:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “property tax” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to property tax
  • Click on the blue “Jump to property tax” link
