Question

If I create an LLC today (Feb 1 2025) for my small business, can I file taxes for the LLC for 2024?

I’m thinking about creating an LLC for my small business. Before I file my personal taxes this year, I’m wondering if I’d be able to file taxes for the LLC for the year of 2024, even though the LLC won’t be established until now (2025).

No, you cannot file a return for a prior year when the entity had not been created.  However, in your situation, the tax filings will probably not change. If you do not want to make any special elections (to be taxed as a partnership, corporation, or S-Corporation), you will report the income and expenses of your business on Schedule C, which flows to your individual 1040.
