IRS rejected e-file of Fed and St Returns

I e-filed Fed and ST returns after passing reviews.

They were rejected by IRS saying my EIN  numbers did not agree with theirs. I  re checked all the IDs on the 1099-Rs I had and they were correct.  I went back to 2023 return and the numbers were the same.                               I called Turbo Tax and they referred me to the IRS.  The IRS referred me to the issuers of the 1099-Rs and don't know where to turn now.   Help.

If the EIN's on your Form(s) 1099-R do not match the IRS records you have two choices:

  • As the IRS suggested, contact the issuer of the 1099 to resolve.
  • Print and mail your returns.

If the EIN's on your Forms 1099-R are correct and the error is on the IRS side, you wont be able to resolve it and you will have to file your returns by mail.
