Morgan Stanley did not report the cost basis on 2022 Schedule D and now I am being targeted by the IRS

What should I do if I can now get my cost basis?

    If you bought and sold stocks through Morgan Stanley, you will have to ask them to look through their records.

     

    The letter from the IRS is a common one, in that they did not receive a notice of the basis. You just need to go to the company with whom you did the stock purchase and go through your statements, and without fail respond to the IRS on time (generally three weeks).
