Question

My entries for Box 14 caused this response: "We found some errors that need attention" Error type is "Duplicate entry for box 14." What's the cause?.

Why am I received error message of "duplicate entry for box 14"?

    Can you clarify if this is for W-2 box 14? what is the duplicate entry for?

    Yes, "Box 14 Other," of W-2.  I reside in NYS and work for the City of New York. I have three Box 14 entries:  IRC125, IRC132 and FRINGE.

    Go back and delete IRC 132 and 'FRINGE'.  

     

    Box 14 is used to report some things that are important in New York like IRC 125.  But primarily it is used to report things that are informational and only for the employees and do not need to be reported on your tax return.

     

    IRC 125 is benefits paid on behalf of your partner and some of that is taxable.

     

    IRC 132 is commuter benefits paid by your employer and does not need to be reported.

     

    And FRINGE are fringe benefits paid on your behalf and does not need to be reported.

     

    So delete those two entries and you should be all set.
